Pathways to Master Professional program at SFU
Daily Hands-on
Over the course of one year, fundamental physical and technical knowledge is taught. Participants acquire extensive practical skills in daily hands-on sessions and live demonstrations.
After successful completion of an examination at SFU Sigmund Freud University in Vienna, Austria, this program concludes with the university certificate "Laser Therapy in Dentistry".

This program concludes with an official certificate of Sigmund Freud University, Vienna, Austria (after internal release of the program), and is offered in collaboration with the AALZ Aachen Dental Laser Center.
This post-graduate Mastership programme is aimed at dentists who want to keep pace with their patients ́ wishes for innovative and gentle treatment methods.
Dental laser technology and treatment concerns are typically not taught in standard academic studies in dentistry. Therefore, this program teaches the necessary professional knowledge for laser applications in dental practice taught at the highest academic level in theoretical lectures and practical hands-on teaching for two selected wavelength areas – dental diode lasers (different wavelengths and types) and dental erbium lasers (Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG).
Participants obtain sound theoretical knowledge in lectures and seminars led by renowned, competent and experienced international scientists and practitioners. Skill-training sessions, exercises, practical applications, and hands-on practical along modules guide participants towards using lasers successfully and professionally in their own treatments.
Venue: Sigmund Freud Private University - Vienna
The course consists of 4 weekend modules, including an exam module spanning 11 days of
attendance in 4 weekends over a one-year period, supported by state-of-the-art e-learning,
including a virtual library and complete course documentation
Laser basics including Laser Safety Officer certification: laser physics, laser construction, function and safe and responsible handling.
Diode Lasers: You will learn the technical-physical principles of diode lasers and their application. The clinical indications of diode lasers are introduced and demonstrations as well as skill training and patient treatments are performed. These include, among others, soft tissue surgery, bacterial reductions, periodontal therapy, bleaching, gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, frenectomy, root canal treatment.
Erbium Lasers: Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers and their applications is taught. These include, among others, hard and soft tissue surgery, cavity preparation, retentive surfaces, root canal decontamination, periodontal therapy, peri-implantitis, bleaching. Laser-tissue interactions for these wavelengths are also discussed. Skill training on models and patients demonstrations are offered.
Final Exams: Presentation of clinical treatment cases (presentation of 5 patient treatment cases with Diode and/or Erbium lasers), Graduation Ceremony, after successful completion of the examination at SFU Sigmund Freund Private University
Pathway to Austrian Masters: when a participant successfully completes the 3 Modules of the "Laser Therapy in Dentistry" Mastership programme, she/he can continue to the "Master Professional in Lasers in Dentistry" from Sigmund Freud University Vienna (optional only, program awaiting internal release at SFU). The delegate will be exempt from 3 out of the total modules of the Master in Vienna as these modules would be completed during the Lasers in Dentistry Mastership program already.
The course is divided into three educational blocks:
Depending on the country in which the program is offered, the first block can either be Laser Safety & Erbium Lasers OR Laser Safety & Diode Lasers.
Alternatively, also Laser Safety, Diode Lasers, and PBM Therapy masterships are available on request.
Use of different Erbium and diode laser systems from leading manufacturers during skill training and practical exercises
Practical instructions on laser handling
Live operations directly on a patient or via direct monitor transfer
Provision of all necessary organic materials and suitable laser safety goggles for guides practice with lasers
Carefully documented working material serves as a sound reference work for everyday practice
Training as a certified Laser Safety Officer is a part of the course
Convenient learning environment due to own state-of-the-art seminar rooms
Link-up to the scientific community: Participants attend international scientific congresses and are encouraged to issue in scientific publications
